The objective of the project was to process the “official” list of crop protection products in the various countries taking part so that they can be more easily implemented in the XComply dosing calculation tool. Safety should thereby be increased for farmers, to ensure they are working with the correct crop protection data; ideally they cannot make formal treatment errors. The project was triggered by the unsatisfactory situation, whereby users of the XComply tool for calculating crop protection products could not rely on it 100% in terms of permissible crop protection products being saved absolutely correctly. A huge amount of effort was required to maintain the database so that this could be reasonably ensured. Despite the greatest care, on the one hand errors could occur when updating the data, and on the other hand the official crop protection list was never really error-free. As modifications to the list of products also occurred over the years, and these changes were not really made available in a processed format, it took a great deal of time to bring the database of products up to date during the year. This situation was ultimately the starting point for the current project. A tool was to be created that processed the official list of products in such a way they could be directly read in XComply. Subsequently, it should then also be possible to filter out modifications in the official list and present them in the relevant form so that these changes could be updated more easily. This involves modifications of individual fields for new products and indications, as well as the removal of products and indications. One of the difficulties here was that the lists of sprays in the countries involved (Austria, Germany and Switzerland) have been set up completely differently and are also given in various formats (XML file or Access database). However, as information had to be uniform for XComply, different “translation lists” had to be prepared for each country, so that the content of the official list could be adapted to the content of XComply. Another task was to compare various versions of the official products list with one another in order to work out the differences between the lists and to then issue them in a so-called list of differences. Another intention was the export of the product list from XComply so that this could then be compared with the official list of products. Errors should then be recognised more easily when inputting and could subsequently be corrected. The details mentioned were also implemented as far as possible. They also represent the basis for the tasks envisaged after the funded project has been completed. This includes the more or less fully automated direct acceptance of the products from the official list in XComply, as well as the drafting of specially formatted product lists for the farmers of a specific organisation directly from XComply. These options were of such great interest to individual organisations that they even cooperated free of charge in the implementation of the project, just to be able to benefit from the advantage of well prepared and maintained product lists for their own organisation.
