    KursKultur aims at using culture as a leverage to promote international understanding in the Danish-German border region. The differences between Danish and German culture are looked upon as a strong point that could become the vital nerve in the development of the region. The Southern Jutland and Schleswig regions are considered as peripheral areas in their respective countries. They are struggling with the problems of a negative demographic transition. Most young people seek to move to the metropolitan regions. This development needs to be stopped – and the most important 'weapons' to win that battle are cultural competence and cultural diversity. KursKultur is pursuing a continuous process aiming at having the local citizens consider the cross-border perspective as a part of their DNA. Like rings in the water, the project intends to help more citizens discover the benefits of cross-border cooperation. The project wants to encourage children, young people and adults to show more interest in the culture and language of the respective neighboring country and our common cultural heritage. Supporting direct encounters between citizens aims at improving their language abilities and promoting intercultural competence. The project's culture and network pool facilitates cooperation between citizens across national borders, minority-majority aspects, disciplinary boundaries, language and cultural background. The pool is intended to cover the immediate border region of South Jutland and Schleswig, but culture does not prosper with borders. Kurskultur, therefore, also offers initiatives aimed at generating a positive approach and openness among people, not only in respect of regional closeness but also the Danish-German area in general and Europe as a whole. Knowledge sharing and more dialogue across the entire program area aim at providing inspiration and paving the way towards new future cooperation. Children and teenagers are the adults of tomorrow – which is why we need to improve our knowledge about the best ways to plan encounters between Danish and German 'kids and youngsters' in order to strengthen their language proficiency and intercultural competence. KursKultur wants to provide more knowledge based on evidence for the benefit of the entire program area and also various learning pathways that can be a useful part of a common Danish-German educational approach. KursKultur is an umbrella project to support numerous innovative micro projects. The cultural community spirit of the citizens sets the course for the cultural development in the border region.
