Academic writing is a core skill of university graduates. However, many only learn what academic writing is when writing their thesis or dissertation. The project further develops the "Thesis Writer” online platform – with reference to the seamless learning perspective. The Lake Constance region, with its many innovative companies has to face worldwide competition – and the best minds too. The fast pace of change requires a high level of adaptability, with the corresponding requirement for lifelong learning. Seamless learning starts with fragmented learning experiences: What is learned in school is not used in later studying; studies or further training do not provide the elements relevant to practice. The aim of seamless learning is to overcome fractures – between individual learning stages, between the school and occupational areas, or from analogue to digital. New technologies are also deployed. Scientific thesis writing is a major challenge for universities. They have to supervise hundreds, if not thousands of works per year according to the number of students. In the short Bachelor courses, students often bring with them insufficient preconditions for independent drafting of academic work. However, many only learn what academic writing is when writing their thesis or dissertation. Seamless learning offers solutions for this thanks to cross-contextual, scalable and flexible forms of learning. The research project further develops the "Thesis Writer” online platform – with reference to the seamless learning perspective. It transforms the traditional staff-intensive guidance for thesis work into digital form and can reach a large number of students with its integrated, web-based platform. Those responsible for guidance are therefore relieved of the routine instructions and can thus handle the content and methodological and technical questions of the students more intensively. The use of Thesis Writer at different universities should give information on acceptance, usability and integratability into study procedures, along with any shortcomings. Based on the recorded interactions of Thesis Writer, the project team also hopes to gain new insights into academic writing research and close gaps in research in interactive instruction systems. There has been no known comparable tool in The German language area up to now. (English)
