In the Ems Dollart Region in the North of the Netherlands and North-West Germany, startups have contributed significantly to the region’s overall economic success. Well-developed startup and entrepreneurship ecosystems have contributed to the economic and societal prosperity in these areas. Such ecosystems consist of companies, regional policy institutions, universities and other private or public organisations that optimally interact together. In January 2019, the preceding project “Startup Perspectives” explored the opportunities and possibilities of a cross-border startup scene in the Ems Dollart Region. It is now recommended to facilitate such a cross-border startup ecosystem. This will entail the formation of a (digital) network of the startup scene in the Ems Dollart Region. With specific mentoring programs and cross border curricula among the higher education institutions the startup ecosystems will be further stimulated. Duplication of already existing activities in the ecosystems will be avoided and synergies among them are aimed for. The added value of the project lies in the bundling of regional knowledge and the facilitation of cross-border cooperation between young entrepreneurs. This will enhance the innovative strength of the entire Ems Dollart Region and new jobs will be created. (English)
