Six cross-border railway lines facilitate movement in the Upper Rhine region, but the service has so far not been satisfactory. There are few trains equipped with cross-border equipment and they have limited capacity in terms of seats. It is against this background that a strategic study will be carried out to lay to down the requirements for a common policy on the replacement of cross-border trains and their certification in accordance with the three countries' standards.
