Project DIVA aims to boost the border region's development potential, so that the region stands stronger in the national and global competition for development funds, talents and skilled labor. DIVA is a strategic initiative under the leadership of the Region of Southern Denmark on the Danish side and the Land Schleswig-Holstein on the German side. The project stands on the shoulder of a long-standing close collaboration between the two actors and will draw on their large network of actors with whom the project is to be implemented. As an innovation in the collaboration, the DIVA project will focus on establishing a lasting Danish-German Development Alliance, as a permanent collaboration platform, where common strategic agendas of importance to the regional actors and across the Region of Southern Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein can be discussed and raised. Project DIVA - applied as a network project - is based on the partly very different experiences that are on the two sides of the border within the described thematic area. As network partners, e.g. involves leading companies, industry associations as well as educational and research institutions. These should help identify any legislative or cultural barriers, and contribute to the implementation of joint development initiatives that can support the project's goal of taken a stronger position in the competition for development funds, talents and skilled labor. The companies mentioned include the Danish company Danfoss, which in a statement of support supports the project and offers to participate at the highest strategic level. The project's most important activities are related to knowledge building, networking and the study of possible organizational forms for the future Danish-German Development Alliance. It is expected, at the end of the network project, that the necessary knowledge base has been provided and a partnership etc. has been developed for the establishment of a lasting sustainable Danish-German Development Alliance, which - if all goes well - can be established at a founding event at the end of 2021.
