The project Sustainable environmental education BildungsBerkel by the Interreg brings together educational activities of schools and other educational institutions within the Berkel region on both sides of the german-dutch border. The new concept initiates from the Regionale 2016 where several suppliers of environmental education started to bring together and network their activies which are to be continued and deepened. Primarily for German and Dutch schools and for people who are interested in nature educational programs for environmental protection are to be developed in order to enable exchange across the national border based on an appropriate infrastructure. As infrastructural measure on the German side of the border it is planned to modify and renovate the existing part of the old village school at the Biologische Station Zwillbrock so that school classes and single persons can stay overnight and cater themselves and on the Dutch side of the border an information pavilion is planned to be established as an information point for environmental education in Eibergen (Berkelland community). The project is enriched by further information points at educational trails (Berkel walks) and printed leaflet brochures. The topic focus is mainly on the subjects biodiversity, climate change and education for sustainable environmental education as well as on cultural historic relations of the border crossing river Berkel and especially the historic river traffic on the old trade route from the western Münsterland to the Berkel estuary into the Ijssel.
