    The project, based on a feasibility study that has already been carried out by ABB Schweiz with regard to climate-friendly commuting, revealed a high level of implementation potential for electro-mobile car-sharing. The practical phase with scientific support which is now planned, should test the mechanisms and incentives that will best exploit this potential, the specific environmental effects that are associated with it and how they can be transferred in a targeted way to other companies. In the High Alpine region (between Basel and Lake Constance) around 55,000 employees commute from the south of Baden to their work in northern Switzerland each day. More than 35,000 alone come from the Lörrach and Waldshut districts. These strong interconnections are not only a challenge for the employment market (workforce shortages, etc.), the commuter traffic also causes considerable CO2, dust and noise emissions. Reducing these is a challenge for the entire region. Sustainable and mobility solutions that protect resources for employees are an important instrument for increasing the quality of life in the region as well as the attractiveness of cooperation. The development of cross-border (individual) electro-mobility is particularly promising for the High Alpine region as the range of local public transport can only be extended to a limited degree there due to the settlement structure and the topography. The project will start with a pilot phase here, in order to quantify the CO2-saving potential on the one hand, and to cover the framework conditions and incentive structures of the long-term implementation of electro-mobility on the other hand. The objective of the project is to promote climate-friendly commuting in the High Alpine region, based on the example of the routes of the employees of the Swiss company ABB, from and to work. Energy transition in Switzerland and Germany should thereby be actively supported and contribute to a reduction in air pollutants. A feasibility study on the climate-friendly commuting of German employees has already been carried out by ABB Schweiz in preparation for the project. The regional council of of Freiburg was the initiator of this, and also involved were the High Rhine commission, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems and Offenburg university along with ABB Schweiz. The study included all relevant technical and administrative aspects for the implementation of a commuter concept supported by the company. This incorporated the study of the prevailing mobility behaviour of commuters as well as their willingness to change over to electro-mobile car sharing models. The result of the feasibility study should now lead to a practical phase at ABB Schweiz, which will be supported scientifically. The changeover to electric vehicles and the formation of car pools with these electric vehicles should be encouraged by suitable mechanisms. The company supports the structural preconditions in the form of expertise, staff resources, e-vehicles and the energy charging infrastructure. An important result of the project is the summarising and publication of the experience gained, so that other companies can apply similar mobility strategies and thereby benefit from the experiences.
