Το παρών έργο προτείνει την εφαρμογή της πρώτης συστηματικής κοινωνιογλωσσολογικής μελέτης (τύπου ποικιλικής γλωσσολογίας) με δεδομένα από Ελληνοκύπριους που ζουν στη Λευκωσία, πρωτεύουσα της Κύπρου. Η Κύπρος χαρακτηρίζεται από κοινωνική διγλωσσία: οι Ελληνοκύπριοι μιλούν την τοπική ποικιλία (κυπριακή ελληνική) και μια πρότυπη ποικιλία (Κοινή Νέα Ελληνική). Η προτεινόμενη μεθοδολογία περιλαμβάνει την καινοτόμο προσαρμογή της κοινωνιογλωσσολογικής συνέντευξης ώστε να μελετηθούν δύο υπο-ποικιλίες της κυπριακής ελληνικής και οι στάσεις των ομιλητών απέναντι στην υπερκείμενη και υποκείμενη ποικιλία. Τριάντα συμμετέχοντες των δύο φύλων και τριών ηλικιακών ομάδων θα περάσουν από συνέντευξη. Σ'αυτό το έργο η κοινωνιογλωσσολογική συνέντευξη θεωρείται διεπιδραστική πηγή δεδομένων, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τον ενεργό ρόλο του ομιλητή στην έκφραση της ταυτότητας του μέσω της γλώσσας. Το παρών έργο δεν θα αποκαλύψει μόνο πως η γλώσσα χρησιμοποιείται από τα δύο φύλα διαφόρων ηλικιών, θα αναδείξει και τις συνομιλιακές λειτουργίες γλωσσικών στοιχείων και θα δείξει ότι η εξέταση γλωσσικών στάσεων πρέπει να είναι αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι τέτοιων ερευνών. Με την ολοκλήρωση του έργου, θα έχει διατυπωθεί για πρώτη φορά περιγραφή δύο υπο-ποικιλιών της κυπριακής ελληνικής, θα αναδειχθεί τυχών συσχετισμός μεταξύ γλωσσικών στοιχείων και κοινωνικών μεταβλητών (ηλικία, φύλο), θα εξεταστεί ο τρόπος με τον οποίο ορισμένα γλωσσικά στοιχεία χρησιμοποιούνται στην διάρκεια μιας συνομιλίας και πως οι ομιλητές αξιολογούν την υπερκείμενη και υποκείμενη ποικιλία. Επίσης, το πρώτο ηλεκτρονικό σώμα κειμένων της κυπριακής ελληνικής θα γίνει πραγματικότητα ενώ τα εργαλεία της έρευνας θα δημοσιευτούν αυτούσια για να προσφερθεί η δυνατότητα τέλεσης άλλων τέτοιων ερευνών σε άλλες περιοχές της Κύπρου στο μέλλον. Το έργο θα βοηθήσει στο πεδίο της κοινωνιογλωσσολογίας, στη κατανόηση κοινοτήτων με κοινωνική διγλωσσία και θα συμβάλει στη μελέτη υποτιμημένων γλωσσικών ποικιλιών προωθώντας έτσι την έννοια της γλωσσικής πο (Greek)

This project proposes the implementation of the first systematic sociolinguistic study (a type of variety linguistics) with data from Greek Cypriots living in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Cyprus is characterised by social bilingualism: Greek Cypriots speak the local variety (Cypriot Greek) and a standard variety (Common Modern Greek). The proposed methodology includes the innovative adaptation of the sociolinguistic interview to study two sub-varieties of Cypriot Greek and the attitudes of speakers towards the overlying and underlying variety. Thirty participants of the sexes and three age groups will be interviewed. In this work the sociolinguistic interview is considered an interactive source of data, taking into account the active role of the speaker in expressing his identity through the language. This work will not only reveal how the language is used by the two sexes of different ages, will also highlight the conversational functions of linguistic elements and show that the examination of language attitudes must be an integral part of such research. Upon completion of the project, a description of two sub-variances of Cypriot Greek will have been formulated for the first time, and a possible correlation between linguistic elements and social variables (age, gender), will be examined how certain linguistic elements are used during a conversation and how speakers evaluate the overlying and underlying variety. Moreover, the first electronic text body of Cypriot Greek will become a reality while the research tools will be published in order to offer the possibility of carrying out other such research in other areas of Cyprus in the future. The project will help in the field of sociolinguistics, understanding communities with social bilingualism and contribute to the study of undervalued language varieties, thereby promoting the concept of linguistic diversity.
