The beginning of cooperation between cultural institutions of the Commune of Lipsk and the Grodno Region on the "Tradition connects the nations" project was caused by noticing a common problem affecting the border areas, which is the disappearing cultural heritage. The area that we want to promote is associated with the Polish-Blackrussian cultural borderland. At the crossroads of Lithuanian Ruthenia (also known as Black Ruthenia), along the Biebrza route leading from Grodno westward, people from many cultural traditions have settled down for centuries. Over the centuries, people of different faiths, languages, traditions and folklore have been neighbours. The climate of this cultural borderland is still preserved in local songs and rituals, handicrafts and folk art. The project activities will be carried out in the town of Lipsk and the villages of Rakowicze and Rogozynek - on the Polish side, and in Sapockin, Kwasowka, Zitomlia, and Grodno in the Grodno Region. These are places where the tradition of old singing and dance is still alive, folk bands maintaining this tradition are still active and the following centers operate: the Museum of Easter Eggs in Lipsk and the Culture and Tourism Centre in Sapockin; they cultivate traditional folk art and maintain traditional crafts. The aging population and depopulation of rural border areas, as well as the lack of interest in the cultural heritage of young people, caused by little knowledge on the subject and the lack of financial perspectives, result in the disappearance of certain forms of traditional handicrafts and local folklore. Noteworthy is the untapped tourist potential - local product and folklore, and the insufficient knowledge of both sides of the neighbors' tourist offer, which transfers into too little interest. The implementation of the project meets these problems, its assumption is to stop this tendency, preserve and further develop the common cultural heritage on the Polish-Belarusian border. (Polish)
