    Overall objective of the project: Modernization of Urbany-Silene border crossing point (BY-LV) will enhance border-crossing efficiency in the border crossing points (BCPs) at BY-LV state border, increasing security of BY-LV state border and ensuring smoother exchange of goods and flow of people between Latvia and Belarus. Specific objectives of the project: 1. Improvement of infrastructure of "Urbany" and "Silene" BCPs; 2. Acceleration of the process of undergoing customs procedures at "Urbany" and "Silene" BCPs; 3. Enhancement of the cargo traffic security and safety of people crossing the border at "Urbany" and "Silene" BCPs. Within the project it is planned: 1) organisation of coordination meetings to discuss problematic issues and further implementation of the project and achievements. 2) organisation of experience exchange trainings. 3) implementation of construction works in both BCPs (passage enlargement between BCPs and provision of safe border crossing by pedestrians, construction of customs inspection complex for customs control performance, improvement of transport management infrastructure to facilitate the transport/pedestrian flow management). 4) raising of public awareness of the project, its activities, achievements as well as the advantages of the customs inspection complex. The results of the project: improvement of the basic transport infrastructure in both BCPs and installation of inspection complex, which will lead to time savings and safety at the border for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, crossing the border in both directions (Belarus-Latvia, Latvia-Belarus). Furthermore, the increase of capacity of the BCPs to manage growing traffic flows for all modes of transport as well as improved security conditions for pedestrians. (English)
