Main Objectives: This project will deliver increased innovation within public service provision of these airports which are supported directly and indirectly (i.e. publically owned, capital and recurrent grants, public service obligations routes, enabling infrastructure) by local, regional and national governments. Expected Change/Outputs: By applying a triple helix model, enabled by a transnational partnership, which focuses on a number of areas to improve the level of innovation at these public service airports. Expected changes/outputs from a wide range of work packages include (i) making airports greener (ii) greater exploitation of their non-aeronautical potential (iii) reduction in the cost burden to governments (iv) greater integration with the local community/businesses (iv) enhanced technological competence (v) enhanced capacity amongst airport management to deal with challenges. Beneficiaries: Local community, local businesses, airport management/staff, students/staff of third level colleges, policy-makers who will gain a better understanding of the challenges faced and government departments funding peripheral airports.
