Тhe common challenge of the programme area that are jointly tackled in the project: Effective utilization of natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage, as a resources for development of sustainable tourism in the common area and prerequisite for economic growth. The project main objective, aims to bring together the people, communities and economies of the Silistra - Calarasi border region, by participating in joint development of a cooperative area, using its natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage in a sustainable way. The project aims at overcoming the limitations on the effective utilization of cultural heritage and natural heritage as resources for tourism development in the cross-border region. The project will contribute to the development and implementation of a common long-term strategy and investments in joint and sustainable tourism infrastructure contributing to the development of a new tourism products and services based on the natural and cultural heritage of the region. - The objectives of the project will be achieved through the following main activities: 1. Elaboration of a joint strategy to promote tourism in the program area through the promotion and utilization of cultural / natural heritage potential; 2. Reconstructing Cultural Infrastructure: the old building known as “Demetriade House” (owned by Calarasi County Council), to set-up a new Natural Science Section of Calarasi Lower Danube Museum / Art Gallery - Silistra. 3. Developing common tourism products and services based on natural and cultural heritage and joint promotion. Тhe expected change that the project will make to the current situation: Sustainable establishment of a dynamic links for exchange of a good practices between the two project partners, based on a joint strategy and developed joint tourism products, dedicated to promoting cultural / natural heritage as a condition for tourism development in the cross-border region. The project results contributes to the following Programme outputs, targeted by this call: Output indicators: - I9 - Number of integrated tourism products/services created - as a result of project implementation, 3 common tourism products and services based on the sustainable joint utilization of the cultural/natural heritage will be developed; - I10 - Number of common strategies, policies or management plans for valorising (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses - as a result of project implementation 1 joint strategy to develop and promote cultural/natural heritage as a touristic product will be developed; - I12 - Financial indicator - 1 500 000 EUR. Result indicators: Number of tourists overnights in the CBC region - 53 000. Joint strategic long-term planning and use of the local potential of the both partners will allow them to create a richer and many-sided tourism product, thus attracting wider interest in cultural heritage and natural heritage and its sustainable use. Without cross-border approach, the planned project objectives will take limited effect within the framework of the usual activity of both partners. The project will contribute to the cultural cohesion between the participants in it, overcoming the limitations of the physical border between them. The cross-border approach of the project is needed, because: The territorial proximity of both partners in the project, presupposes their cultural and natural proximity as well. The absence of a common approach to the maintenance and utilization of the cultural and natural heritage in the region limits the action taken in this direction to the local level. The realization of the project goals is impossible without sustainable cross-border cooperation between the two partners Silistra and Calarasi. Implementing measures only at local, regional or national level would be ineffective with limited impact. The project gives a opportunity for a completely new approach to the planning and utilization of cultural and natural resources in a territory, based on the joint mobilization of the potential on both sides of the border. the new/original in the project approach is: =>The conservation and restoration of the building of the Art Gallery in Silistra and rehabilitation o: the old building known as “Demetriade House” (owned by Calarasi County Council), to set-up a new Natural Science Section of Calarasi Lower Danube Museum will be made by using building materials and methods with limited influence on the environment and by energy efficiency approaches. =>The Development of a “Joint strategy” and the tourism products will have an innovative goal: “the Siilistra - Calarsi region to be identified as Place attracting Artists from all over the world and people with interests in the combination of Art and the Nature. =>The Web-based Tourism Portal will be innovative, interactive, with applications making fast and easy access.
