The main challenge in the Eligible Area, to which the current project proposal is directed, is to improve the sustainable development, protection and preservation of the cultural heritage in the region and to increase the tourist flow. The socio-economic situation (youth unemployment, migration and low activity) is directly related to the management low capacity, unsustainable development, use and popularization of the cultural heritage in the region. The problem is exacerbated by the low awareness of the population about its protection, development, preservation and enhancement of its capacity to integrate with the socio-economic development strategies and policies. The project is directly targeted to the major challenges in the region. Its joint implementation will ensure sustainability and tackling with the challenges faced by both countries, improvement of the current situation, reduce of the existing gaps in functionality, setting the direction for future development of the region on the preservation and development of cultural heritage, its promotion and use. The overall objective is to improve the sustainable development, protection, preservation and promotion of cultural heritage and to improve the socio-economic situation in the region. Using and implementing innovative approaches to achieve the overall objective ensures long-term sustainability of results for generations ahead and a steady increase in the tourist flow. The development of a joint integrated tourism products and their application will increase community awareness of the region’s existing immovable cultural heritage and its common link between both countries over the centuries and the places where it can be seen. This will lead to an increase in the tourist flow and overnight stays in the region, which, in turn, leads to an improvement in the socio-economic situation. The capacity to manage, integrate and protect cultural heritage and its sustainable use and promotion will be enhanced. The project is directly targeted to the output and result indicators of Priority Axis 2 - “Number of integrated tourism products/services created”, "Number of common strategies, policies or management plans for valorising (Including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic use” and “Number of tourists overnights in the CBC region”, contributing to their joint achievement. Main results: - Study of 18 buildings with a common history, part of the Eligible Area’s cultural heritage; - Overall external digitization of 18 buildings with a common history; - Developed 1 joint report/strategy for the protection, development, preservation and promoting the cultural heritage; - 18 realistic 3D models of 60x60 cm of the explored buildings made. - 8 exhibitions held in the respective museums in the Eligible Area; - Extensive information campaign according to the European Commission Regulations and observing the Visual Identity Manual of the Programme in view of informing the community of the existing cultural heritage in the region, its popularization, preservation, conservation and development with an estimated number of over 100,000 users; - New digital tourism has been created; - Upgrade and expansion of the “Danube-A river with lots of history” Project’s scope; The main outputs of the project are directly connected and interrelated and together contribute to the following programme outputs: - 2 joint integrated tourist product / service developed; - Increase of overnight stays in the region by 80 persons. Each resident of the Eligible Area will be a direct beneficiary of the achieved results. In order to highlight the regional identity of both countries and the link between them, it is necessary to point out the common values and the exploitation of bilateral elements of cooperation and exchange, but not separately. A complex combined approach will be used through flexible and adequate consideration of the factors of the external and internal environment in the region and the appropriate use and implementation of human, information, financial and material resources. At the base of the approach needed to achieve the objectives and indicators of the project are: joint development, management, implementation and co-financing. It is through this complex cross-border approach that the objectives and results will be achieved. To address the common challenges in the Eligible Area and facilitate the exchange of good practices, the project will be implemented by the following principles: shared management and partnership through a joint process in which each partner will participate fully. The unilateral conduct of research, preservation and promotion of cultural heritage will deepen the region’s disproportions.
