The Municipality of Rethymno with the National Confederation of Persons with Disabilities, on behalf of the Greek side and the Municipality of Ayia Napa with the Municipality of Sotiras, on behalf of the Cypriot side submit the present project proposal entitled "Accessible Nature and Culture-Sustainable Tourism", the which concerns the improvement of accessibility to natural and cultural spaces in the two municipalities, the promotion of these spaces and the development of common strategies and tools aimed at tourism for all. The cross-border area and especially the three municipalities of Rethymno, Ayia Napa and Sotira are popular tourist destinations with exceptional natural and cultural characteristics. Given the need to improve the quality of the tourist product, the extension of the tourist season and the expansion of the tourist market share, the three municipalities systematically engage in an effort to attract new visitors (individuals with disability / reduced mobility / c age) As part of the project they will be implemented. - interventions to improve the accessibility to selected natural and cultural sites of the 3 municipalities and creation of accessible models and maps of selected points of natural and cultural heritage that will be placed in the respective areas, - actions to promote and promote accessible tourist destinations through publicity material, accessible website, and information workshops. - joint strategic plan for the development of "accessible tourism", guide to the emblematic accessible points of natural and cultural heritage of the two islands, proposals for packages of accessible tourist routes. - common system for assessing accessibility and placing a certification mark on "accessible to all natural and / or cultural heritage sites" - actions outside the cross-border area for the exchange of good practices. With the need to improve the quality of the tourism product, the extension of the tourist season and the expansion of their market share, the two cities are systematically engaged in an effort to attract new visitors such as the disabled, which according to the EU and the World Tourism Organization are the future challenge of the industry. Already from the previous tourist season, the municipalities of Rethymno and Ayia Napa developed joint actions to improve the accessibility of the tourist infrastructure they have and their targeted promotion to the above target groups, in collaboration with ESAmeA, as a guarantor of the respective know-how. requires a similar undertaking and which ESAMEA has and utilizes to promote the equal integration of people with disabilities. In the context of the previous programming period, they improved the accessibility of important cultural sites and created a tourist guide and an electronic platform for accessible infrastructure / services.
