Although Central Danube area, situated in east Croatia and west Serbia, has not been traditionally oriented towards tourism, as tourist demand shifted towards active holidays in clean environments, healthy lifestyles, culture and healthy food - stakeholders active on this economically lagging, but naturally and culturally wealthy region, saw an economic opportunity and started to invest intensively from year 2002 in hospitality structures and local offer. Still region is at the beginning of tourism development. Reason for this is poor state of tourism infrastructure, lack of standardized accommodation facilities and services, low level of marketing of cultural/natural heritage, lack of information exchange within the sector, lack of destination management system, as well as the undiversified tourist offer able to satisfy visitors’ interest for longer stay. There are no specially tailored programs offered on the market that connect attractions, products and tourism services on cross-border level. Project aims to foster tourism development by creation and promoting Central Danube cross border destination (visual identity, operative marketing plan, event development/typical products study, tourism fairs participation, PR materials), influencing skills and capacities of sector stakeholders (joint training), upgrading the organization and visibility of offer by creating joint tourist products and services presented thru 9 new thematic cross-border routes, as well as increasing tourism sector competitiveness by providing joint destination management platform and promotion tools to the target groups (Central Danube Tourism cbc Network, Danube festivals, Danube label, web site upgrade, PR material). Target groups are tourist operators, rural households, typical products producers, wine producers, local and regional authorities, tourism boards, civil society organizations active in tourism, professional bodies providing tourism-related services and local inhabitants.
