    Cycling infrastructure in Danube region is largely in an early stage of development, especially outside of the major urban areas. Given the benefits that cycling has on environment, transport multimodality, tourism, health etc. this fact is both a development opportunity and a substantial safety risk if not properly addressed. Shocking facts are coming even from developed countries (i.e. NL) where in 2017 more people were killed and seriously injured on bicycles than in cars. Improvement of data on cyclist-related fatal and serious injuries makes this problem apparent everywhere, especially where cycling provision don’t exist or are poor, like in Danube region. The aim of this project is to tackle cycling infrastructure safety issues on existing, planned and missing cycling corridors crossing the Danube region by increasing awareness about cycling infrastructure safety, facilitating transfer of best practices and transnational cooperation through learning activities. The project contributes to the SO3.1 of the DTP in line with the restrictions with topic on cycling routes in Danube area. The project maps infrastructure risks on existing Danube region EuroVelo routes and provides a strategic decision-making toolkit that will increase stakeholders’ capacity, build knowledge and cooperation at different levels, thus preventing development of killer cycling infrastructure an early stage. Best practices in the factsheet form will be collected offering recommendations that will support decision-making process in building new and improving existing routes. The project will display its potentials in 3 pilots,one in each participating country. SABRINA covers routes crossing 12 countries in the Danube Region and involves 12 PP from 10 countries. Besides comprehensive Risk Mapping on cycle routes, SABRINA will integrate two existing assessment methodologies (EuroVelo ECS and EuroRAP) and deliver integrated bicycle infrastructure risk assessment methodology for future use.
