The aim of the project is to boost tourism in the Hungary-Serbia border region by introducing the local crafts and their world’s famous products. The partners on the project are one Hungarian and two Serbian municipalities in the border region which care about preserving the communal heritage and values of unique craft traditions. In Tavankut, Serbia, straw-image makers create pictures that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, while in Subotica, braided lace is made with a technique that was used in ancient cultures. At the same time, Kiskunhalas, Hungary is the home of the world’s famous Halas Lace, which is officially a part of Hungarian Cultural Heritage. The works from all three different crafts prominently feature religious motifs, which are the dominant theme of this project. During the project, the partners will organize eight events, such as: religious artistic crafts exhibitions, in which the project partners present their works in Kiskunhalas and Subotica, interactive workshops for adults, and seminars for children in all three municipalities. The exhibitions will be particularly attractive for visitors with religious values. The project will also attract a large number of “pilgrim-tourists” from Hungary and Serbia. At the workshops and seminars, the visitors will be able to learn about the craft techniques and try them out. All of these events will attract a great number of people who like crafts, as well as those who are active craft practitioners. The collaboration between the participating organizations on this project will be the start of a long-term cooperation. With the help of the craftsmen and artistic craft products from the three partnering organizations, the project will help tourism development and connect people both within these communities and across the border.
