In the north-west of Germany and the north of the Netherlands, renewable energies have been increasingly used in recent years. The disadvantage of the sun and the wind as a source of energy is that the supply fluctuates and does not correspond to the energy supply. The interim storage of this electrical energy (power) in another energy carrier such as hydrogen gas, methane, methanol or battery (X) would be a solution to this problem. The aim of the project 'Power to Flex' is to support regional companies in the development and implementation of innovative pilot projects in the field of energy storage, which contribute to the flexibilisation of a sustainable energy economy. To this end, the participating SMEs and knowledge institutions from the border region are jointly building three pilot plants of varying scope, which intelligently balance the electricity grid: - a micro-P2X test facility for individual households and small businesses; - an intermediate energy storage point at the micro- / meso level; - a P2X test facility on the meso level for a sewage and biogas plant. Solutions close to the source - solar systems in the household, the wind power plant in the village - are to be preferred for various reasons. This scale fits well into small and medium-sized businesses. The partners of the P2X project are mainly SMEs from the region. You'll see the possibilities of processing the P2X technology for smaller applications at micro and meso level. Participation in the project gives them the opportunity to take the first steps to realize and present their solutions in close cooperation with knowledge institutes. The insights and experiences within the project will in the future contribute to the creation of new sales opportunities and jobs for these companies. (English)
