IN-CAB MONITORING SYSTEMS FOR ROAD VEHICLES ARE BECOMING ESSENTIAL IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY, AS THEY ENABLE: 1) AVOID LEAVING UNATTENDED OCCUPANTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE (WHICH ENTAILS HUGE RISKS OF HEAT STROKE AND INVOLUNTARY OPERATIONS OF VEHICLES): 2) MONITOR THE CONDITIONS OF THE DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS (ACQUISITION OF DATA ON VITAL SIGNS AND HOW THEY ARE POSITIONED); 3) PREVENT/MINIMISE ACTS OF VANDALISM AND THEFT (THANKS TO BETTER SURVEILLANCE); AND 4 RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, THANKS TO THE PROVISION OF EMPIRICAL DATA. INDEED, THE EUROPEAN CAR ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME (EURONCAP) WILL REQUIRE THE INSTALLATION OF SEAT OCCUPANCY DETECTION AND THE DETECTION OF THE PRESENCE OF CHILDREN IN ROAD VEHICLES BY 2020.
