About Project Northeast (Projekt Nordost) The project is run by the Gothenburg Northeast Coordination Association (Samordningsförbundet Göteborg Nordost), which is a joint organisation formed by the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg to focus on an agreed area, in this case the Gothenburg city districts of Angered and Östra Göteborg. There are substantial differences between Gothenburg as a whole and northeast Gothenburg in terms of how many people are in gainful employment. There are also considerable differences in the circumstances faced by men and women and by those born in Sweden and those born overseas. Northeast Gothenburg has unresolved challenges, but also shows great potential that has not yet been fully realised. This project aims to develop the Coordination Association's ability to attract and support the target group, which comprises foreign-born women in need of coordinated vocational rehabilitation in order to approach or enter the labour market. The target group is often burdened by long-term unemployment combined with poor health, illness, disability and language barriers. In order to gain access to adequate vocational rehabilitation, individuals are often required to have the ability to get involved in and drive their process forward, as well as to investigate their rights as regards different authorities and actors. What's more, it is not unusual for the process to require a good working knowledge of the Swedish language. The Coordination Association wants to develop methods for and support individuals in driving their own processes so that more foreign-born women gain access to vocational rehabilitation. In addition, the project will incorporate actors from the third sector, as well as employers, as the target group moves closer to the final goal of employment or studies. Project Northeast will have a clear focus on combining health promotion efforts with activities aimed at gaining employment or starting to study. By getting deeply involved in their own process, each individual's support will be as personalised as possible. Each participant will have access to a coach/guidance counsellor/health worker for support in transitioning from passivity to activity. There will be much focus on activities that lead to improved health, work and studies or participants approaching the labour market. The project is also intended to be an accessible project: we want to meet the participants where they live. The project will develop existing collaborations to also include actors other than the four authorities. Accordingly, the project will, among other things, collaborate with local non-profit organisations catering to the target group. Furthermore, the social economy will be involved in the project through collaborations with social enterprises working with labour market integration. About 200 women will gain access to the project activities. Among those who complete their participation within the project period, 30% are expected to gain employment or begin studying while a further 40% are expected to have moved closer to the labour market. If coordination is strengthened for foreign-born women in need of coordinated rehabilitation efforts, improvements will be seen on both the individual level and the organisational level. By empowering the individuals encompassed by the project and creating collaborative arenas for parties that can make a difference for the target group, the labour market will be opened to more people. The intention is to implement the methods that prove successful (Swedish)
