Проектът е свързан с изпълнение на дейности, предвидени в мярка 22 и 109 от НПРД, които ще доведат до подобряване на природозащитното състояние на местообитания и видове в Рамсарско място „Комплекс Беленски острови“ в ПП „Персина“. Тук се намират едни от най-значимите за България влажни зони – „Остров Персин“ и блатото „Кайкуша“, с типични местообитания, свързани с водата и влажните зони и някои от най-редките местообитания, свързани с пясъчни образувания и ксерофитна растителност. Проектното предложение попада в следните НАТУРА 2000 зони: BG0002017 Коплекс Беленски острови, BG0002087 Свищовско-Беленска низина, BG0000396 Персина. Чрез изпълнението на дейности по модернизиране и автоматизация на механичната система за отваряне и затваряне на савачните врати (шлюзове) на съоръженията във влажна зона „Остров Персин“, с изграждане на хидравлична система за задвижване на всяка една от общо 6 савачни врати и надграждане на системата за мониторинг на водните нива с 3 нови точки, ще се подобри водният режим във влажната зона, ще се увеличи сигурността, ефективността и качеството на управление. Предвидените за изпълнение на дейности по косене на тръстика и аморфа, ще допринесат до подобряване природозащитното състояние, съответно на местообитание 3150 „Естествени еутрофни езера с растителност от типа Magnopotamion или Hydrocharition“ и местообитание 2340* „Панонски вътрешноконтинентални дюни“. Като резултат от дейностите по косене на тръстика в блатото „Кайкуша“, се очаква да се създадат условия за формирането на водни огледала, подходящи за развитие на ихтиофауна и притегателно място за водолюбиви птици. Подобряването на водния режим и отварянето на водни огледала ще допринесе до подобряване състоянието на местообитание 3150 „Естествени еутрофни езера с растителност от типа Magnopotamion или Hydrocharition“, но и подобряване на природозащитното състояние на целевите видове: къдроглав пеликан , малък корморан и белоока потапница. The project relates to the implementation of activities provided for in Measure 22 and 109 of the NPRD, which will improve the conservation status of habitats and species in Ramsar Belen Islands Complex in Persina. Here are some of the most significant wetlands for Bulgaria — Persin Island and Kaikusha Swamp, with typical habitats associated with water and wetlands and some of the rarest habitats associated with sand formations and xerophytic vegetation. The project proposal falls within the following NATURA 2000 zones: BG0002017 Belen Islands Complex, BG0002087 Svishtov-Belenska Lowland, BG0000396 Persina. Through the implementation of modernisation and automation of the mechanical system for opening and closing of the savage doors (locks) of the facilities in wetland “Island Persin”, with the construction of hydraulic propulsion system for each of the 6 doors in total and upgrading the water level monitoring system with 3 new points, the water regime in the wetland will be improved, security, efficiency and quality of management will be increased. The intended implementation of reed and amorphing activities will contribute to the improvement of the conservation status of habitat 3150 ‘Natural eutrophic lakes with Magnopotamion or Hydrocharition vegetation’ and habitat 2340* ‘Pannon Inland Continental Dunes’. As a result of the reed mowing activities in the Kaikusha swamp, it is expected to create conditions for the formation of water mirrors suitable for the development of ichthiofauna and an attractive place for waterbirds. The improvement of the water regime and the opening of water mirrors will contribute to the improvement of habitat 3150 ‘Natural eutrophic lakes with Magnopotamion or Hydrocharition vegetation’, but also to improve the conservation status of the target species: Dalmatian pelican, little cormorant and white-eyed dip.
