Viability of crafts as an attribute of sustainable rural development and vitality must be ensured through its continuous revitalisation, presentation and transmission. “CraftWays” will promote, safeguard and popularise intangible historically cultural heritage of Latgale, Vitebsk Oblast and north-eastern Lithuania – traditional crafts and skills – through joint work in educating young craftsmen in Ludza municipality (LV), Glubokoye district (BY), Novopolotsk City (BY) and Moletai district (LT). If you want to achieve something significant it is always better to work in a team. That is why craft specialists of the beneficiaries’ institutions (Ludza Art School, Glubokoye Art School, Novopolotsk Centre of Art & Traditional Culture, Moletai School of Art) will participate in 4 joint seminars in LV, LT and BY and in a study trip to Estonia, where they will be able to compare own achievements and methods with another country. These institutions will also form groups of young craftsmen and will teach them traditional crafts: LB woodcraft, B2 malyavanka painting, B3 basketmaking, strawweaving, pottery, embroidery, painting, B4 weaving, pottery, woodcraft. The young craftsmen will meet at 4 joint workshops, where they will take part in master-classes, visit cultural sites, exhibit their works, take part in a filming a video about crafts in the partners’ municipalities. The video will be published on a project channel in YouTube, where 14 master-classes of the project will also be viewable. To start this work the partners will buy special equipment and tools, LB will have Ludza Art School’s woodcraft cabinet repaired, and B3 will organise renovation of premises at the Centre of Craft and Traditional Culture.
