The Project will engage with the young people who are most marginalised and disadvantaged. Young people are the main assets of the project and will work in partnership with youth workers to fulfil their potential, develop skills and build confidence. Participants will contribute positively as active citizens to the development of a more peaceful, participative, democratic society, and be more at ease with difference. Participants will be more able to test previously held assumptions in relation to religious and political views, culture and traditions and be more willing to confidently engage in civic, cultural and sporting life. The project design will allow the Partners to face the challenge of working in a meaningful way to address the legacy of the conflict and division. The Project will be delivered during a time of changing demographics with increased diversity and new ideas, experiences and friendships to be experienced. Rather than avoiding the challenges staff will be at the forefront of creating experiences where positive change can happen. The main objective of the project is to achieve this change through explicit learning which will be relational and skills based. Transformation will be attitudinal and behavioural and will encourage participants to set goals as active agents in peace-building, reconciliation social, educational and personal development. Three outcomes, Personal Development, Good Relations and Citizenship will be cross cutting throughout the entire programme enabling personal development in self-awareness, understanding, relationship skills and active citizenship. Participants will have an increased understanding of diversity and willingness to see diversity as making a positive contribution to society. The Project will contribute to human flourishing, social cohesion and a more just and peaceful society. Crucial to the successful delivery of the programme is the Youth Work Approach and the skills and committment of the staff who will be recruited. The project design draws on learning from previous programmes that has hightlighted the significance of the relationship between the youth worker and the young people. The project will involve 600 young people of which 480 will complete 20-25 contact hours per week over a nine month period. 480 young people will have achieved OCN accreditation. It is anticipated that all participants will have gained volunteering experience and have participated in a sporting event from a tradition different from their own and will have participated in a cultural/arts event tackling issues of sectarianism, racism and discrimination. The distinct features of the programme will be the breadth and depth of the experience . Young people will be involved in a local social justice project. The Partners have established relationships in all project areas rooted in communities. The network of church and faith based organisations will be utilized to contact young people most marginalized and disadvantaged. The depth of the project will allow an authentic youth work approach where young people are co-creators and involved in design delivery and evaluation and where relationships can be formed to allow difficult conversations to take place and barriers to be removed.
