Infectious diseases pose a grave threat to humankind. Throughout history a number of these have ravaged the planet, most recently SARS-CoV-2 which is causing the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of the diseases spread through air and hands. Hands can be disinfected in a number of ways, most notably by using soap and water as well as by using alcohol-based gels or sprays. According to the ECDP, hand disinfection using alcohol-based solutions is one of the main ways to prevent the spread of the current coronavirus. The general goal of the project is to improve prevention of infectious diseases by means of hand disinfection. Automatic hand disinfection units which we see in public places are passive in nature: a person must approach them. Our solution will involve a self driving new sanitization robot and make hand disinfection a more proactive solution by actively approaching people and offering hand sanitization. The robot will also educate people on how to properly sanitize hands. Finally the robot will be able to distribute personal protective equipment to those who need it. The main result of our project is the newly developed and tested module for hand sanitization which will motivate and educate people on how to properly sanitize their hands thus contributing to reduction of the spread of infectious diseases where used. The beneficiaries of our solution will be the whole human population, as reduced infections would directly lead to saved lives. The innovation in our project lies in two aspects of the solution: interaction and modularity.Interaction: the newly designed robot will be able to detect people, talk to them, listen to them, detect their gaze, actions, and properly react to those. Modularity: the movement base will be able to detach from the sanitizer top unit and will be able to relocate the units one by one. This way it will be possible to reduce the price of a fleet, by having the option to have only on the movement unit. (English)
