(German)

The rapidly increasing data traffic on the global Internet is now aggregated into access networks and transported from then on via optical communication systems. The rapidly growing volume of information requires a continuous increase in data throughput while reducing energy demand and cost per bit. A promising approach to this is to increase the bandwidth of electro-optical transmission and reception systems. At KIT, system experiments are planned in a series of application-oriented research projects that require an optical reception unit with very high bandwidth. These include research into novel photonic components and subsystems as well as the design of efficient algorithms for ultra-fast digital signal processing. The device makes it possible for the first time to research optical data transfer methods with symbol rates well above 150 GBd. (English)
