Αντικείμενο του έργου είναι η δημιουργία του Κέντρου Αριστείας NatPro_Aegean, που επικεντρώνεται στη συστηματική καταγραφή, διατήρηση, προστασία και αξιοποίηση των προϊόντων / υποπροϊόντων αγροδιατροφής (ελαιόλαδο, τυροκομικά, μελισσοκομικά, εσπεριδοειδή, κρασί και τα υποπροϊόντα τους) και γενικότερα του πλούτου της φυτικής βιοποικιλότητας της Περιφέρειας Βορείου Αιγαίου (αρωματικά και φαρμακευτικά φυτά, εδώδιμα και ενδημικά είδη). Η υλοποίηση του έργου θα προάγει τη βασική και εφαρμοσμένη έρευνα, με τελικό αποδέκτη τους πολίτες και τις επιχειρήσεις των νησιών της Περιφέρειας Βορείου Αιγαίου, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στους γεωργούς, παραγωγούς και όλο το δυναμικό δίκτυο του πρωτογενή τομέα από την καλλιέργεια έως την μεταποίηση / τυποποίηση.
