The main objective of the project is to reduce the negative impact of sewage treatment plants in Ostaszewo and Chernyakhovsk on the natural environment. Implementation of the project will increase the efficiency of sewage treatment facilities and enable to fulfil of legal requirements as well as will increase the capacity of the sewage system in Ostaszewo. The scope of the project includes liquidation of the existing treatment plant and construction of a new biological sewage treatment plant with pumping station, drainage point, technological building and road network in Ostaszewo. On the Russian side, activities are very similar – 3 compact sewage treatment plants with sewage pumping stations will be constructed in Chernyakhovsk District. The western border of the Ostaszewo runs on the Vistula River, and the Russian towns covered by the project are located on rivers that are a tributary of the Pregoła River, which has an outlet in the Vistula Lagoon. This means that untreated sewage eventually reaches the Baltic Sea. The effect associated with reducing the problem of groundwater pollution is of cross-border nature - benefits will be felt both in Poland and Russia. Additionally, the project will become a platform for exchange of organizational and technological know-how between partners. (English)
