Tourism and the concern for the environmental protection are the challenges addressed by the project and the opportunities are given by the potential of the area: an exceptional biological diversity and by valuable natural and cultural landscapes. The considerable natural and cultural heritage will meet leisure and recreation packet in new integrated tourism products in the area – rowing on the Danube. The main objective of the project is to create 1 new integrated tourism product designed for adventurous tourists – adventure trips with kayaks and canoes for beginners, advanced, families and people with disabilities; in order to facilitate better utilization of joint tourism potential, generating 6033 overnights in the CBC region. The new tourism products will support a sustainable development of the region from economic, cultural and social point of view. The project budget of 499.851,56 euro will be invested in 2 operational tourism centers, one on each side of the border, fully equipped with safety equipment, sportswear and water sport equipment (10 kayaks for 1 person, 10 kayaks for 2 persons, 5 canoes for 2 persons, 5 canoes for 4 persons and 5 boats for people with disabilities, 1 trailer, 1 motor vehicle 4x4 for carrying the equipment/trailer/boats according to Annex C, 1 motor vehicle for carrying the tourist with minimum 7 seats according to Annex C and 1 motor boat for each center) and 14 pilot actions organized in the eligible area of the programme: 4 Adventure trips with kayaks (3 days each), 4 Expeditions with canoes (1 day each), 4 trips with special boats (1 day each), 2 Regatta (7 days each) using the equipment purchased to promote the new tourism products. The new tourism products will be developed starting from the findings and results of the common strategy to identify the routes to ride and explore the natural and cultural heritage from a boat (kayak, canoe, special boat for people with disabilities), and will be made known by making use of the common strategy to promote the integrated tourism products, including raise awareness on natural and cultural heritage of the area. The relevance of the project in the programme context is given by its contribution to the programme output indicators: 1 new integrated tourism product created covering 2,33% of the programme output indicator for this call for proposals (I9) and 2 common strategies developed covering 8,7% of the programme output indicator for this call for proposals (I10). The project budget, 499851.56 euro, in comparison with the financial indicator for PA2 represents only 1,71% from the output indicator for this call for proposals (I12). The concept of the new integrated tourism products is not an original one along the Danube, expeditions/surveys/fests with tradition are organized on the upper section of the Danube river, but for sure is a new one in the programme target aria. The new integrated tourism products will concentrate on attracting weekend/holiday and school-groups, family and friends’ adventure and most important groups of people with disabilities. Nevertheless, a joint exploitation of the tourism potential in Romania-Bulgaria cross border area represents one effort, therefore, one investment with benefits for both sides of the border.
