La requalification de la cité Taffin participe au 1er programme expérimental des éco-cités minières UNESCO. Ce programme vise la requalification de cet habitat spécifique par la mise en œuvre d’un programme intégré prenant en compte outre la dimension logement, des enjeux urbains, paysagers et architecturaux, sociaux et environnementaux. Le traitement qualitatif retenu est réalisé à la fois pour la rénovation intérieure et extérieure des logements. Un traitement architectural enrichi permet de valoriser ce patrimoine au niveau des façades (remise au jour des éléments d’origine) et des abords (séparation domaine public/domaine privé, traitement des eaux de pluie par infiltration et enfouissement des réseaux électriques et téléphoniques).
