Property / summary: People with intellectual disabilities (IPDs) compared to the general population are exposed to a high number of traumatic events throughout their lives. In addition, the presence of a traumatic event will cause an alteration in its quality of life due to its greater vulnerability to cope with exceptional situations. On the other hand, the specificity of traumatic symptomatology and the difficulty of the clinician to understand this symptomology makes it difficult for them to receive good psychosocial care. Numerous studies report the high prevalence of anxious, depressive symptoms and the onset of PTSD in people with DI who have experienced one or more traumatic events. Despite the impact this has on their quality of life and their emotional state and the impact on their environment, there are no validated scales in Spanish that help clinicians make an accurate diagnosis to offer more specialised interventions. The objective of this project is to: validation of the Spanish version of the tools that would complete a traumatic symptomatology assessment battery for people with DI; analyse and know the type of symptomatology most frequently based on trauma. This battery of screening of traumatic symptoms will represent a further step towards comprehensive care within the mental health of people with DI, being able to detect, diagnose and intervene in a specific way. Subsequently, it will be disseminated to DI reference centers in Spain, which will improve their mental health care. (English) / rank | |||||||||||||||

(Spanish)
