The project is a collaborative project between Luleå University of Technology and LTU Business AB. The overall goal of the project is that SMEs in participating municipalities and surrounding society perceive Luleå University of Technology as a natural partner. The project goal is that research and innovation collaboration between LTU, industry and the surrounding society has increased. The project has the following six milestones: New collaborations between LTU and SMEs in participating municipalities have been initiated based on the needs of SMEs where at least 10 % of SMEs have not previously collaborated with LTU – the collaborations between LTU and SMEs consist of increasing complexity and commitment, – participation SMF has developed products and services up to the step before commercialisation, – increased understanding in the collaboration processes for how gender mainstreaming collaboration and a norm-critical approach contributes to a broader collaboration and increased socially sustainable growth in the region, which contributes to new collaboration methods and cooperation between Luleå and SMEs. LTU Business AB’s role is to meet companies and based on their needs and with the help of the Innovation Office at Luleå University of Technology match the needs of the companies with suitable activities at the university. Within the project, ownership rights to the results of the collaborations that arise will be handled, which creates security for both the companies and the university. Within the framework of the project, an innovation factory will be carried out where students are tasked with investigating and developing companies’ products and services, and where the results of the work fall to the participating company. The revenues in the project consist of the fee that companies pay to participate in the innovation factory activity. The project will also work to increase the commitment and knowledge of Luleå University of Technology’s activities at the participating municipalities’ business departments so that they can better pilot the companies, who primarily contact them, on to the contacts they have built up with the university.
