Year by year situation in water supply and sewerage networks in Alytus and Grodno cities is steadily improving. But still, there are a lot of things to do. One of them - prevention of accidents and natural or manmade disasters in water supply and sewerage networks and elimination of their consequences. The river Nemunas is a trans-boundary river shared between Belarus and Lithuania. The centers of municipalities Alytus and Grodno, are located in the basin of Nemunas. Both of them are the main polluters of natural water resources, because they are high population density and densely developed manufacture. The aim of the project is to prevent environmental damage from the sewerage network failures, or disasters in sludge treatment fields in Lithuania - Belarus cross border regions cities Alytus and Grodno. The project is implemented by 4 partners. Total 2 partners from Lithuania and 2 partners from Belarus. Applicant - Alytus city municipality, project beneficiary 2 (B2) - Grodno city municipality, project beneficiary No.3 (B3) - JSC "Dzukijos vandenys", project beneficiary 4 (B4) - "Grodnovodakanal". Main project activities are: Preparation of the common to both partners plan on the prevention of regional or local disasters in water supply and sewerage networks, purchasing necessary equipment for liquidation of disasters or potentially high risk accidents in sewerage networks, inform civilians of their responsibilities and proper actions in case disaster has happened. Expected results of the project are: decrease of potential high risk accidents and natural or manmade damages in sewerage networks of Alytus and Grodno cities (English)
