In the contemporary education process, special attention is paid to non-formal education of children outside and beyond the curriculum of educational institutions. This field of education creates an alternative learning space, provides meaningful leisure opportunities and has a positive impact on the problems of after-school employment. However, the practical objective of general education is teaching kids hard skills (like the sciences, humanitarian subjects) rather than teaching them soft (life) skills (like time-management, creativity, communication, problem solving etc.). Today’s research shows that schools are unable to fulfil schoolchildren’s socialization and preoccupation needs as the social service at schools only conduct tests and surveys about the situation in this field. The project overall objective is making social services for kids accessible through international cooperation and teaching soft skills. This problem is authentic for Lithuania and Belarus as the educational systems of the two countries have much in common, especially related to lack of non-formal education opportunities. The partners of the project are gymnasiums of Alytus and Grodno cooperating for a long time in different fields. The main activities will include the creation of a joint programme in teaching life skills, creating resource centres for teaching life skills and creating alternative educational spaces to hold various events and involve more children in non-formal education process. As a result, project target groups will improve their knowledge about soft skills. The renewed infrastructure will create possibility for children to be more active in social initiatives, will give opportunities to expand and deepen the curriculum, to meet the needs and abilities of different students especially students from vulnerable groups (like one-parent, large-family students etc). Besides a closer relationship between partners will be created in the field of non-formal education. (English)
