    The integration of renewable energies into the existing power supply system is a challenge which the partners on the German and Danish side have to face equally. For this reason, the project team, which consists of actors on both sides of the border, is devoting itself to this future field in order to develop its pioneering role in the field of renewable energies and to advance the border region with innovative solutions. At times when too much renewable energy is generated, the grid can no longer absorb all of it. Production and demand are not in harmony and plants may be shut down. The demand for energy fluctuates immensely over 24 hours, with peak times during the day and a low point at night. Due to the increasing share of renewable energies in Denmark and Germany, the supply on the production side is volatile (unsteady). Ensuring grid stability is becoming increasingly difficult under these circumstances. Therefore, there is a great interest in “directing” energy consumption so that it can be better matched with generation, thereby making better use of existing power distribution networks. The demand is thus adjusted to the production (demand response). Flexible loads in private households (use of washing machine, dryer, etc.) could be postponed in peak periods of energy production and, on the other hand, peak load times could be mitigated. In concrete terms, this means the development and adaptation of a cost-effective, flexible and reliable intelligent control of household electricity consumption so that electricity producers and distributors have the opportunity to influence private consumption, taking into account their respective needs. Private households are thus to be included in smart grid and smart home solutions. In conjunction with the last COP 24 meeting (24th Conference of the Parties in Poland), this project will strongly support the political intentions to integrate more renewable energies into national electricity grids in a more cost-effective and technically effective way and will contribute to the long-term availability of 100% renewable energy supply.
