The Danish-Swedish project will combat frequent eye disease that affects approximately 20 percent of citizens over the age of 60 in the programme region. The age-related eye disease AMD is the main cause of blindness among the elderly. Danish-Swedish cooperation will fight blindness among an increasing number of Scandinavians. Approximately 20 percent of citizens over the age of 60 in the programme region are affected by the age-based macular degeneration (AMD), which is the main cause of blindness among the elderly. Some forms of AMD, which are also referred to as age spots, can be treated to slow visual impairment, but there is no cure for the disease. The project “Can you see the future?” is set in the world to unify cross-border expertise, as the programme region is facing demographic developments that may leave more elderly blind people in the future. The project aims to investigate whether exercise can prevent blindness in the elderly with the eye disease. In addition, the aim is to investigate what it is like to live with AMD, as well as the importance of physical activity for own health, visual quality of life and social community of people living with AMD.
