The project answers to a common challenge of the programme area, namely the natural & cultural heritage of the cross-border region is not capitalized to its potential value into sustainable cross-border tourism. Varshets is a spa town, with beautiful nature, but its climatic & balneal potential is not enough promoted & does not present complementary services (eg. museums) to meet the foreign tourists’ expectations for longer stays. Yet, Varshets has an important natural asset - a fossils deposit which is not used for tourism, although the modern museum techniques proved this to be a very attractive resource. Craiova has a city area with multiple business & social opportunities at cross-border level, while presenting a wide range of cultural or leisure attractions. To meet Bulgarian visitors’ expectations, Craiova needs dedicated services in order to foster the social, cultural & business relations, towards a common development of the area. Although Oltenia Museum has a regional significance & is a core attraction, it lacks the innovative technologies, promotion & language tools to attract cross-border public & youth in general. Moreover, the partnerships with Bulgarian similar institutions with purpose to organize joint activities & services, are also missing. The overall objective of the project is to promote cooperation among institutions & people byusing the cultural & natural resources in a sustainable touristic way. The project will establish a new touristic resource in Varshets, respectively a museum complex: Paleo Park & Information Centre with an Exhibition Area using advanced innovative instruments, targeting national & cross-border tourists. The project will create a common cultural tourist product: Cross-border Museums Tour, & also will promote a cross-border tourist service: balneal-climatic facility in Varshets addressed to Dolj population. Moreover, the project is introducing a new type of modern tourism: scientific/academic tourism (conferences, exhibits, common research etc) in the field of palaeontology & other natural sciences. These will certainly increase the tourist cross-border flow by creating new tourist destinations & by joint promotion of the 3 tourism types, while increasing the overnight stays of the Bulgarians coming to Craiova within urban/business travels. All 3 precincts of the Oltenia Museum and the Expositional Center will be endowed with innovative tools in RO/BG, increasing awareness of both communities for cross-border tourist offer In Varshets & Craiova. Given the above mentioned aspects, the project is contributing to the project outputs as follows: 4 integrated tourism products/services created: 1. Cultural tourism: the CBC Museum Tours is targeting children, students, families, retired persons at cross-border level & will include Natural Sciences, Archaeology & History, Ethnography & Folklore Sections of Oltenia Museum & the envisaged Expositional Complex of Varshets made of Paleo Park & Information Centre with an Exhibition Area. 2. Balneal-climatic services in Varshets is targeting families & retired persons. The offer will be promoted through the innovative platform of Oltenia Museum & other channels available to this beneficiary (tourism fairs, exhibitions etc), therefore a new destination will be promoted to Dolj population. 3. Scientific/ academic tourism is targeting experts & scientists in natural sciences. We mention that in Dolj county 3 fossil deposits can be found. This will be fostered by the partnership among 2 museums, sharing expertize in Palaeontology, a joint conference and research event. 4. The TIC from Varshets will be a common service as it will provide information for both regions: Varshets (balneal, cultural, scientific sectors) & Craiova (cultural, scientific sectors). 3 common strategies, policies or management plans for valorising the cultural & natural heritage through its restoration & promotion for sustainable economic uses: 1. Promotion & information platform for the three mentioned types of tourism. The platform will include innovative instruments which with RO/BG information: Virtual tours of Natural Sciences Sections & of the Expositional Center, hosted by www. muzeulolteniei.ro & linked to the LB site; Hologram at Oltenia Museum which will present images from both sides; Interactive instrument within Expositional Center in Varshets; Virtual assistants & talking totems for all three Oltenia Museum sections, providing info about Craiova & Varshets touristic integrated offer; 2. Awareness campaign about Craiova & Varshets touristic integrated offer: brochures, presentation movie, presentation of both beneficiaries webpages; mass-media articles, conferences etc. 3. Cooperation agreement & a strategy of cooperation between the 2 museums. The project approach is to tackle the lack of joint promotion & awareness on cross-border tourist offer, to integrate the innovative, multimedia tools into cross-border cooperation, to overcome the under (English)
