The resource culture is a growing economic factor and an important location advantage for individual regions. The Upper Rhine region has above-average cultural resources in the pop music, visual and performing arts segments. The actors are well structured and networked locally in bands, associations and institutions. However, cross-border cooperation is limited to mostly occasional meetings. There is clearly a lack of continuous cross-border exchange. This is where the project “Planète Neuf Brisach” with a focus on pop music comes in. The project promotes the cross-border cooperation of the German-French music players through the realisation of a cross-border working group pop music and sustains it by organising an annual three-day festival in the border towns of Neuf Brisach and Breisach. The festival allows to get to know and exchange music players among themselves and at the same time promotes the desired cross-border exchange on the Upper Rhine through the bilingualism of the actors and music. During the preparatory phase, the groups and musicians meet for rehearsals and smaller, publicly accessible “jam sessions” e.g. in music schools, smaller event rooms and public places on both sides of the Rhine. As part of these rehearsals, in which the musicians can introduce themselves with their respective instrument and also demonstrate their individual styles and playing skills, a real workshop atmosphere will be created that promotes the learning and exchange of experiences linguistically, humanly and musically across borders. The World Heritage Site Neuf-Brisach and the city of Breisach — located in the heart of the metropolitan region of Upper Rhine — are the ideal location for the visualisation of the Upper Rhine as a cross-border cultural region. The unique architecture of the festival grounds allows simultaneous performances of the different musical genres. The festival introduces actors of pop music as well as visual art and theatre, who have their residence on the Upper Rhine. The three days of the festival (13, 14 and 15 July 2018) will be an important measure for the further professionalisation of all participating musicians and artists. Through this medial and real visible platform, a cross-border branding is created for the numerous so far mostly only local actors. The innovative orientation of the festival — interdisciplinary and multimedia — underscores the artistic potential of the metropolitan region. (English) | |||||||||||||||

(German)
