Project “Remember the War, to appreciate your liberty” addresses the issues of sustainable use of natural heritage and resource and cultural heritage. The historical heritage in the cross border area isn’t exploited at real value especially in the both representative towns, Calafat and Vidin, important locations in unfolding historical events from 1877-1878 period, considering that Calafat was the location where the Independence War started, from here it was launched the first salvo. More than that, across the Danube valley, on both sides, exists an impressive number of monuments dedicated to this event, monuments that are not included in a tourist product. We aim to create and promote a representative tourist product for the cross-border area Calafat - Vidin by bringing to life the athmosphere of 1877-1878 Independence War battles and inauguration of an event, “Calafat and Vidin in 1877-1878 period”, with cross-border resonance. The major challenge is the reconstitution of the battle “Calafat and Vidin in 1877-1878 period” in order to create epochal and historical atmosphere, which will be the emblem of the both towns, Calafat and Vidin, in order to attract more tourist in this zone. The aim is to create epochal and historical atmosphere through original items or uniforms and gear manufactured including edged weapons and fire arms replicas, congruent with the original historical items, for the period commemorated. Another target is to realize the public events linked on the importance of the microhistory event: military -historical reconstitution, public presentation, contacts with the lesser known aspects of the events. Another major challenge is the implication of young pupils in the reconstruction of this battle through the military trainings, putting them in direct contact with a military outfit and military everyday life for the corresponding historical epoch. Another objective is the identification of historical monuments dedicated for this major event “Calafat and Vidin in 1877-1878 period” and their introduction in one tourist product (brochure) for the entire cross border area. The historical monuments will be the location for the next reconstitution of battles in the representative area. The program outputs targeted by this project are:<br>- the creation of a new integrated cross-border tourism product based on the sustainable promotion of historical events and monuments bringing to life the athmosphere of 1877-1878 Independence War battles. The project will contribute to the increase of tourist overnights in the target region with at least 500.Target groups of the project are: Educational sector, young students, for which 6 workshops will be held in the CBC area with for promotion of cultural event with historical theme; Individual citizens, Private companies, NGOs, Public sector, for which 2 workshops will be organized in order to bring attention to the issues addressed by the project and to unite their efforts for the achievement of maximum effect on tourism development and authenticity of historical battles. Journalists and tour-operators. The approach adopted by the project is at first place cross-border, where citizens, students and institutions will be involved from both parts of the Danube to organize joint events, inspiring them all. The approach of selection of participants will be non-discriminative, following clear selection criteria, equality between men and women, equal opportunities. Most importantly, the approach for the creation of the new joint tourism product will rely on authentic historical sources and will try reproduce the events in most authentic way. Within the project will be elaborated a promoting movie which will contain the reconstitution of the battle also including a short presentation of the historical monuments dedicated to heroes fallen in 1877-1878 Independence War. Project activities will be: project management, 6 Workshops for high school pupils, 2 Workshops addressed to local authorities, 6 “Military trainings”, “Calafat and Vidin in 1877-1878 period”. The main result of the project will be a created and well-promoted tourism product based on historical potential of the region, untapped at his real value, based on the existence of many monuments lifted in honor of fallen heroes in 1877-1878, on both sides of the Danube, monuments which aren´t included and promoted in no any cross-border tourism product. This is an entirely new project idea, never implemented so far. It is most valuable with the inclusion of young people in historical events and bringing the institutions together, engaged to make the project achieve the best results. The approach of the project is to use the rich historical resources of the region in order to transform them in a winning tourists tourism product. The budget for our operation is nearly 500.000,00 euro. (English)
