The objective of the “extension of the circular path on the banks of the Rhine” is to extend the existing Rheinfelden circular path on the banks of the Rhine between Rheinfelden (Baden) and Rheinfelden (Aargau) in the middle of the project perimeter, on the neighbouring spatial structures, in order to increase the quality of the existing connected areas of water as a common natural and cultural area as well as a local recreational space. he focus is on waterfront-related measures being created as new “gems”, and making these stand out. The existing localities are to be upgraded and put in a cross-border general context, to open up a greater initiative in promoting the regional identify of the population and their living quality. The measures will strengthen and enhance the existing spatial quality and contribute to maintaining and developing this natural and cultural heritage on the banks of the High Rhine, increasing the living quality of the population and visitors, as well as making the common regional identity stronger. The economic valorisation of the area as a leisure and tourist destination is also associated with this. The improvement of environmental conditions is achieved via measures to direct visitors in the light of the growing demand for outdoor recreation, with the creation of targeted elements, which in turn help to protect existing natural values. The new recreational options, which are almost “on the doorstep” also have the effect of reducing motorised leisure traffic. Besides the improvement of the water and leisure-orientated infrastructure through the enhancement and addition of shoreline paths and promenades, the promotion of accessibility, the extension of signposting, the addition of seating and play options, as well as viewing platforms and information boards, the renovation of a canoe station and the creation of new moorings for scheduled boats, high water protection measures, as well as the refurbishment of collections of buildings worthy of protection, and the design upgrade of sites have also been carried out. There is also a comprehensive leisure map of the entire area, which details and explains all the “gems” in the catchment area of the circular path on the banks of the Rhine. Its contemporary refurbishment as an iOS/Android app for smartphones appeals to all age and user groups. As a result of the planned cross-border measures, the banks of the Rhine within the perimeter of the project will be upgraded in terms of quality and quantity. This will benefit all groups and ages within the population, who live in the region and who want to enjoy being outdoors, or exercising or improving their health in the open air, or who want to experience lively places. This is also the case for hiking and cycling tourists, city break travellers and spa guests. (English)
