Metsäbiotalous on tunnistettu Pohjois-Karjalan maakuntaohjelmassa, Joensuun kasvustrategiassa sekä Joensuun kaupunkiseudun elinkeino-ohjelmassa merkittävimmäksi maakunnan osaamislähtöisistä kasvualoista. Itä-Suomen yliopisto on allekirjoittanut Joensuun kasvustrategian ja sitoutunut edistämään edellä mainittujen maakunnan kehittämisstrategioiden tavoitteita. Yliopiston monitieteinen osaaminen on keskeistä mm. Metsäbiotalouden keskuksen muodostamisessa ja vaikuttavan, kansainvälisesti kiinnostavan toiminnan käynnistämisestä.Tämän hankkeen tavoitteena on vahvistaa metsäbiotalouden alalla yliopiston ja elinkeinoelämän kumppanuutta ja yhteistyötä alueellisesti, kansallisesti ja kansainvälisesti. Hankkeella parannetaan tutkimuksen vaikuttavuutta osana innovaatiotoimintaa. Hankkeen kuvattujen toimintojen toteuttamiseksi perustetaan määräaikainen metsäbiotalouden professuuri. Hankkeen tavoitteena on koordinoida entistä tehokkaammin yliopiston toimintaympäristössä metsäbiotalouden toimintoja. Professorin tehtävänä on osallistua aktiivisesti alan kehittämiseen esim. rahoitusta hakemalla. Hankkeen tehtävät edellyttävät hyvää metsäbiotalouden toimintakentän tuntemusta, metsien roolin ja niiden tarjoamien mahdollisuuksien tunnistamista biotalouden kokonaisuudessa. Hankkeessa syntyvän laajan verkostoitumisen avulla tehdään Pohjois-Karjalasta kiinnostavampi investointikohde metsäbiotalouden toimijoille.Hanketoiminta sijoittuu tutkimuksen ja elinkeinotoiminnan rajapintaan. Aktiivinen vuorovaikutus tutkimustulosten hyödyntäjien kanssa tehostaa tutkimustulosten jalkauttamista sekä ohjaa tutkimustyötä ja sen suuntaamista. Hanke vahvistaa metsäbiotalouden tieteellistä perustaa ja opetusta, kehittää metsäbiotalouden soveltamisalaa ja parantaa biotalouden tutkimuksen ja opetuksen koordinaatiota. Hanketta toteuttavan professorin tutkimusala on metsäbiotalouteen liittyvä päätöksenteko ja johtaminen.Hankkeen keskeiset lyhyen aikavälin tulokset ovat yritysten parempi kiinnostuminen Pohjois-Karjalastametsäbiotalouden investointien kohteena, alueellisen metsäbiotalouden osaamisverkoston vahvistuminen, laadukkaat kansainväliset ja kansalliset metsäbiotalouden osaamis- ja yhteistyöverkostot, lisääntynyt rahoitus metsäbiotalouden t&k –toimintaan sekä metsäbiotalouden tutkimus- ja opetusosaamisen monipuolistuminen. Pidemmällä aikavälillä Pohjois-Karjalalla on edellytykset olla Euroopan metsäbiotalouden merkittävin innovaatiokeskittymä, jossa osaamisverkostot ja metsäbiotalouden laajentunut elinkeinotoiminta toimivat aktiivisessa yhteistyössä. Tässä visiossa Pohjois-Karjalaan tullaan silloin, kun halutaan tutustua metsäbiotalouden uusimpaan teknologiaan, tuotteisiin ja palveluihin. Tällä hankkeella on tuntuva merkitys em. vision toteuttamisessa, koska hanke tuo yliopiston osaamisresurssit ja kansainväliset yhteistyöverkostot nykyistä selvästi vahvemmin mukaan metsäbiotalouden kehitystyöhön. Forest bioeconomy has been identified in the North Karelia provincial programme, Joensuu’s growth strategy and the Joensuu urban business programme as the most significant of the region’s know-how-based growth areas. The University of Eastern Finland has signed Joensuu’s growth strategy and committed to promoting the objectives of the above-mentioned regional development strategies. The University’s multidisciplinary expertise is central to the formation of the Forest Bioeconomy Centre and the launch of an impressive, internationally interesting activity. The aim of this project is to strengthen the partnership and cooperation between the university and the business community in the field of forest bioeconomy at regional, national and international level. The project will improve the effectiveness of research as part of innovation activities. In order to carry out the activities described in the project, a temporary professorship in forest bioeconomy will be established. The aim of the project is to coordinate forestry bioeconomy activities more effectively in the university’s operating environment. The professor’s task is to participate actively in the development of the field, e.g. by applying for funding. The tasks of the project require a good knowledge of the field of forest bioeconomy, identification of the role of forests and the opportunities they offer in the bioeconomy as a whole. The extensive networking created by the project will make North Karelia a more interesting investment target for forest bioeconomy operators. The project activities are located at the interface between research and business. Active interaction with users of research results enhances the implementation of research results and guides research work and its orientation. The project strengthens the scientific basis and teaching of forest bioeconomy, develops the scope of forest bioeconomy and improves the coordination of bioeconomy research and teaching. The research field of the professor implementing the project is decision-making and management related to forest bioeconomy. The main short-term results of the project are the increased interest of companies in North Karelia as a target for forestry bioeconomy investments, the strengthening of the regional forest bioeconomy expertise network, high-quality international and national forest bioeconomy know-how and cooperation networks, increased funding for forest bioeconomy t&k activities, and the diversification of research and teaching expertise in forest bioeconomy. In the longer term, North Karelia is able to be the most significant innovation hub in the forest bioeconomy in Europe, where the knowledge networks and the expanded business activities of the forest bioeconomy cooperate actively. In this vision, North Karelia comes when you want to explore the latest technology, products and services in forest bioeconomy. This project will make a significant contribution to the realisation of this vision, as the project will bring the university’s expertise resources and international cooperation networks more closely into the development of forest bioeconomy. La bioéconomie forestière a été identifiée dans le programme provincial de Carélie du Nord, la stratégie de croissance de Joensuu et le programme des entreprises urbaines de Joensuu comme étant les zones de croissance les plus importantes de la région. L’Université de Finlande orientale a signé la stratégie de croissance de Joensuu et s’est engagée à promouvoir les objectifs des stratégies de développement régional susmentionnées. L’expertise pluridisciplinaire de l’Université est au cœur de la formation du Centre de bioéconomie forestière et du lancement d’une activité impressionnante et d’intérêt international. L’objectif de ce projet est de renforcer le partenariat et la coopération entre l’université et les milieux d’affaires dans le domaine de la bioéconomie forestière aux niveaux régional, national et international. Le projet améliorera l’efficacité de la recherche dans le cadre des activités d’innovation. Afin de mener à bien les activités décrites dans le projet, un poste de professeur temporaire en bioéconomie forestière sera créé. L’objectif du projet est de mieux coordonner les activités de bioéconomie forestière dans l’environnement opérationnel de l’université. La tâche du professeur est de participer activement au développement du domaine, par exemple en faisant une demande de financement. Les tâches du projet exigent une bonne connaissance du domaine de la bioéconomie forestière, l’identification du rôle des forêts et des possibilités qu’elles offrent dans l’ensemble de la bioéconomie. La mise en réseau étendue créée par le projet fera de la Carélie du Nord une cible d’investissement plus intéressante pour les opérateurs de bioéconomie forestière. Les activités du projet sont situées à l’interface entre la recherche et les entreprises. L’interaction active avec les utilisateurs des résultats de la recherche améliore la mise en œuvre des résultats de la recherche et guide les travaux de recherche et leur orientation. Le projet renforce la base scientifique et l’enseignement de la bioéconomie forestière, développe la portée de la bioéconomie forestière et améliore la coordination de la recherche et de l’enseignement en bioéconomie. Les principaux résultats à court terme du projet sont l’intérêt accru des entreprises en Carélie du Nord en tant que cible pour les investissements dans la bioéconomie forestière, le renforcement du réseau régional d’expertise en bioéconomie forestière, le savoir-faire et les réseaux de coopération internationaux et nationaux en bioéconomie forestière, le financement accru des activités de bioéconomie forestière et la diversification de l’expertise en recherche et en enseignement dans le domaine de la bioéconomie forestière. À plus long terme, la Carélie du Nord est en mesure d’être le pôle d’innovation le plus important de la bioéconomie forestière en Europe, où les réseaux de connaissances et l’expansion des activités commerciales de la bioéconomie forestière coopèrent activement. Dans cette vision, la Carélie du Nord vient quand vous voulez explorer les dernières technologies, produits et services en bioéconomie forestière. Ce projet contribuera de manière significative à la réalisation de cette vision, car le projet permettra d’approfondir les ressources d’expertise de l’université et les réseaux de coopération internationale dans le développement de la bioéconomie forestière.
