Hästnäringen kan ses som ett industriellt system där hästen utgör kärnan med ett stort antal omgivande leverantörer av tjänster, insatsvaror och utrustning. Exempel på detta är träningsverksamhet, avel- och stuteriverksamhet, veterinära tjänster, foderproduktion, försäljning av utrustning, samt småföretag inom rekreation, turism och hälsa. Strategisk forsknings- och innovationsagenda, SIA Hållbar Hästnäring presenterar hur Sveriges hästnäring kan utvecklas och skapa innovationer som driver tillväxt och möter viktiga samhällsutmaningar. Agendan lyfter fram ett antal områden där hästnäringen har stor potential att bidra till innovation och tillväxt för hållbar utveckling. Agendan betonar också vikten av korsbefruktning med andra branscher samt ökad samverkan, alternativa affärsmodeller, internationalisering samt fungerande stödsystem. (Swedish)

The horse industry can be seen as an industrial system where the horse forms the core with a large number of surrounding suppliers of services, inputs and equipment. Examples of this include training, breeding and studry, veterinary services, feed production, sales of equipment, and small businesses in recreation, tourism and health. Strategic research and innovation agenda, SIA Sustainable Horse Industry presents how Sweden’s equine industry can develop and create innovations that drive growth and meet important societal challenges. The agenda highlights a number of areas where the equine industry has great potential to contribute to innovation and growth for sustainable development. The agenda also emphasises the importance of cross-fertilisation with other industries as well as increased collaboration, alternative business models, internationalisation and functioning support systems.
