The project aims at developing new molecular architectures based on surface-grafted polymer brushes that could serve as versatile platforms for template fabrication of functional nanomaterials. Inherent properties of dense polymer brushes will be utilized and controlled surface-initiated polymerizations will be used as main synthetic methods. Conjugated ladder-like layers and block photoactive brushes are exemplary systems that will be obtained enabling directional transport of electrons and/or excitation energy. Hybrid materials comprising polymer brushes and functional inorganic nanoobjects will be also fabricated to address important questions regarding molecular transport and template syntheses in the confined brush environment. Achieving main goals of the project should provide new insights and define capabilities of the nanoengineered systems for e.g. harvesting of light and converting its energy, opening new paths for development of next generation organic photovoltaic devices (Polish)
