One of the common challenges of the Programme area is complicated current epidemic situation of tuberculosis. Deficiencies of funding for medical branch and reforming health care in Ukraine, lack of services of TB counteraction and limited access to them for certain parts of the population, including risk groups, low of social and economic level of the population is an obstacle to the proper struggle against TB in the region. Due to intensive migration processes, it threatens neighboring regions of EU countries: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, etc. The overall objective of the LIP is reducing the incidence of tuberculosis in the cross-border areas of Ukraine and Poland. The project will increase the effectiveness of TB detection by means of microscopy method in general medical network up to 5%, improve the epidemic situation of tuberculosis in the border areas, reduce the long-term incidence by 1.5 times, implement cost-effective treatment of TB, and improve the quality of medical services in the field of TB. The main outputs are: 1) establishment of the new TB hospital in Nyzhnya Apsha village provided with modern medical equipment and innovative European approaches to TB detection, prevention and treatment, 2) introduction of effective methods for detecting tuberculosis in risk groups, including ones living in remote sites, through establishment of modern mobile diagnostic complexes, 3) improvement of medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment of TB in Podkarpackie Center for Lung Diseases Treatment in Rzeszow. Due to essential decreasing level of the risk of TB epidemiology all population of Transcarpathian Region and Podkarpackie Voivodeship will benefit from the LIP outputs. It is planned the close cross-border cooperation and experience exchange between medical institutions of Ukraine and Poland which will allow us to establish new conditions and possibilities for sustainable and safe development of all Carpathian Region.
