Project Results and Outputs: The Listen, Share, Change Project has been developed to deliver a regional level project which results in meaningful, purposeful and sustained contact between persons from different communities. The Project will result in: 1560 beneficiaries taking part in a 36-week programme designed to build new relationships across traditional community backgrounds and the development of self-efficacy, literacy, discussion and mediation skills for the individual; 52 individual housing communities across the NIHE estate engaging in cross community engagement; Participants engaging in a total of with individuals from different community, cultural and religious backgrounds; Training and development of to further implement the model beyond the Peace IV project; Creation of 104 Future Youth Leaders providing a new voice for the resolution of community tensions at local level. 24 retained cross community groups, 42 retained Neighbourhood Champions. Project design: In order to deliver those objectives, the project proposes to utilise the Reading Rooms model to engage groups of 12 participants in reading and discussing purposefully selected literary works, to explore and reflect on issues relevant to their own lives. The sessions will be facilitated by a trained volunteer practitioner (Neighbourhood Champion) sourced from the participating community. Neighbourhood Champions will be accredited to OCN level 2 and 3 in Facilitation Skills for Shared Reading. The topics which will be explored through the project will include subject such as diversity, symbols, identity, heritage, culture, shared history and conflict. The project will run over 4 years and engage 30 groups per year in cross community activities. Of the 36 sessions, 31 of these will comprise direct cross community engagement. Cross community engagement will also be facilitated through the pairing of Neighbourhood Champions to deliver programme activities on a cross community basis. Activities will take place within Housing Executive community facilities across the 52 selected communities. Strategic and Policy Context: A review has been undertaken of relevant strategies and policies demonstrating that the proposed project is in alignment with Programme for Government, Fresh Start Agreement, TBUC, NI Strategy for Children and Young People, Pathways to Success, NIHE Community Involvement Strategy, NIHE Community Cohesion Strategy, DfC Social Housing Reform Programme, Community Safety Strategy for NI, NI Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal and Priorities for Youth. The project is complementary to, but additional to, existing local and regional provision. Need and Demand: Current needs for the project arise at multiple levels including the need to: Reduce the degree of segregation, demarcation of space and interface tensions in the social. (English)
