    Plastics are inextricably linked to today's social model and their production is expected to quadruple by 2050. The current management of the waste generated (landfill, incineration) is neither environmentally nor economically sustainable. As no chemical recycling solution is completely up to speed at present for certain plastic waste, the marketing of a process to recreate raw materials from plastic waste is clearly a feasible alternative. This issue is particularly important for the cross-border area given the density of the companies involved. The objective of the PSYCHE project is the production of basic chemical compounds (olefins) that can be reused in the chemical industry obtained from plastic waste. The first part of the project sets out to develop and demonstrate the feasibility of an innovative technology for gasifying different plastic waste streams. In the second part of the project, the synthesis gas produced in this way is then converted into basic chemical compounds via the Fischer-Tropsch process. A technical and economic assessment is carried out in combination with an environmental analysis using life cycle assessment. The project addresses the issue of chemical recycling of plastic waste. Finally, the PSYCHE project also aims to respond to the challenges of mobility and training of young researchers. (English)
