The major solutions proposed through the action based on the identified needs of the target groups and project beneficiaries are: - to raise the awareness of the local population and local authorities on the importance to take pre-emptive measures and be prepared for emergency situations, especially in rural settlements. - to strengthen the institutional capacity of the local public authorities, local NGOs and other initiative groups to cope with the consequences of potential natural or man-made disasters before specialized institutions could intervene. - to organize comprehensive training campaigns for local population in Galati county and Cahul district to learn how to handle the consequences of natural disasters and other force majeure events but also to be able to provide first aid until specialised medical and emergency units arrive. - to enhance the institutional capacity of the Department of Exceptional Situations in Cahul and Red Cross Galati that will improve their response time in case of natural or man made disasters. Following the implementation of this project, project partners expect to improve the degree of preparedness of the selected communities to face the major types of emergency situations, but especially those caused by floods and earthquakes as the most common and the most devastating of any force majeure events in Lower Prut area.
