    Wood Key project is designed to change the reputation of wood as being climate unfriendly energy source. Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro are forest rich countries and traditionally have used wood for heating and cooking. Traditionally means burning wood in old inefficient stoves while sustainability of origin and quality of the raw material (like water content) is not a priority. Such a habit (burning wet wood in inefficient stoves) is directly harming the climate and has earned wood a negative reputation. Wood Key project is about changing that reputation by showing that the oldest renewable fuel can not only reduce carbon footprint but also help to develop the local economy if used sustainably. Targeted investments in Croatia, BiH and MN including the installation of 3 biomass boilers of total 1,8 MW capacity are to serve the purpose of increasing the local demand for woody biomass as an incentive for new economic activities in form of supply. Previous project that was implemented during 1st call for proposals (Renew Heat) has proven that biomass heat contracting model can be initiator of biomass market development. Promotion and implementation of heat contracting model as innovative business model is main purpose of Wood Key project as it will be implemented during project lifetime in all three partner countries (3 contracts for heat supply concluded). Results are built on exchanges of experiences and collaborative learning experiences between partners and local stakeholders using a multisector (public, business, citizens) and multi-level (local, regional, national) approach in order to achieve strong outputs, such as Joint strategy on RES and Investment platform. Investments have been chosen to have an educational and public character in order to provide the building occupants with a real life demonstration of RES usage. Energy efficiency is also in focus of the project as education will be conducted for public institutions occupants. (English)
