Project Overview: The project will result in the creation of an Advanced Manufacturing supercluster combining the collective and complementary strengths of the engineering Research Institute at Ulster University; the James Watt Nanofabricaton Centre at Glasgow University; the PEM Centre at Sligo Institute of Technology; and CoLab at Letterkenny Institute of Technology; co-ordinated by Catalyst Inc. the Project will involve the deployment of Advanced Manufacturing technologies (Sustainable Manufacturing; Advanced Polymers; Additive Manufacturing and Nano Manufacturing) to enable eight regional Health & Life Sciences companies predominately based in the North West to develop new products and processes; thus strenthening the Regional economy. Project Partners: The North West Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (the Programme) led by Catalyst Inc (trading name of Northern Ireland Science Park Holdings Ltd) involves a number of academic and industrial partners, who collectively possess the right experience and expertise to deliver it successfully. The Partnership comprises: Catalyst Inc (Lead Partner); Ulster University (Lead Academic Partner): Glasgow University; Institute of Technology Sligo; and Letterkenny Institute of Technology; Derry City & Strabane District Council; Abbott (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); Armstrong Medical (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); Bemis Healthcare Packaging (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); Laser Prototypes Europe (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); GSK Stiefel (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); Nuprint (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); Randox Laboratories (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary); and Sphere Global (Industrial Partner / Beneficiary). Project Objectives: 1. Increase the level of cross border collaboration across the Region in the area of applied Advanced Manufacturing R&I; 2. Increase the number of regional Health & Life Sciences (including supply chain) sector companies engaged in commercially driven cross border Advanced Manufacturing R*I; 3. Further develop the regional economy through the development of new products and / or processes (TRLs 2-6) within the Life & Health Sciences Sector; developed as a result of the applicaiton of Advanced Manufacturing technologies; and, 4. Increase the awareness of the potential of Advanced Manufacturing as an enabling technology within the Life & Health Sciences Sector and others key to the Regions current and future economic success.
