The Danish and German side in the program area have to exploit the cross border labour force and the education possibilities in order to achieve greater economic growth and to increase the global competitiveness. The Fehmarn Belt Region also faces challenges as companies are in lack of and will be in lack of qualified labour force in connection with the future major building projects. To create greater mobility across the border, the Fehmarn Belt Region continuously faces mental barriers. Therefore, it is necessary to involve the entire value chain; education institutions, job centers and the companies to secure a better balance in the program region. The aim of RE-BAL is to increase the mobility of the cross border labour market and also neutralize the lack of qualified labour force, whereas a cross functional aim is sustainability.RE-BAL improves the possibility for the companies to recruit employees (job seekers, students and trainees) in the entire region. This is done by innovation/extension of the cross border cooperation, establishment of cross functional network, increased mutual knowledge and development of innovative solutions, processes and information material. Project activities as workshops for students, trainee stays, establishment of company network, 2 days stay for employees in the job centers and establishment of representative network contribute to increase the cross border mobility. This will in the long term minimize the risk for bottlenecks and thus improve the companies’ possibility to have and get access to the necessary labour force with the right/relevant competences. This again contributes to an increase of regional attractiveness and mutual understanding. In that way the regional growth and trade potentials will be boosted. The innovative approach is to build bridge between education institutions, job centers and companies and through cross functional networks develop innovative methods, processes and information to strengthen and mobilize the cross border labour market. This creates an inter related labour market and increases the mobility in the Fehmarn Belt Region. (English)
